We were relaxing in the shade behind our lodge when herds of thirsty elephants started arriving from all directions to the watering hole 40 yards in front of us. In total, we counted 64 elephants ranging from tiny newborns to massive dominant males. Breathtaking, and not once did I feel in danger. It was fascinating to observe their social structure, all coming together to share one of the most basic elements of life: water. Mindful of the others, they each got their fill and slowly turned one by one and marched back in the direction from which they came. Slowly, silently, truly magnificent gentle giants.
I created this black and white image using a polarization technique to accentuate the unforgiving landscape that is Africa's dry season.
